Health Minister Joseph Cassar on Tuesday gave Parliament the daily cost incurred by the Health Department to keep the health centres at Floriana, Mosta and Paola open.

He was answering a question by Labour MP Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.

During the week the cost was €1,355.52 at Floriana, €1,233.60 at Mosta and €1,355.52 at Paola. Cost between Saturday and Sunday reached €1,903.20, €1,754.16 and €1,903.20 respectively.

The cost between Saturday and Sunday included four hours of work on Saturday between 8 p.m. and midnight and eight hours on Sunday between midnight and 8 a.m.

Between 5 p.m. and midnight the average number of persons calling at the health centres was six at Cospicua (open to 8 p.m.), 79 at Floriana (24 hours), eight at Gżira (up to 8 p.m.), 67 at Mosta (24 hours), 130 at Paola (24 hours), five at Qormi (up to 8 p.m.) and five at Rabat (up to 8 p.m.). During these times there was only a nursing service at Cospicua, Gżira, Qormi and Rabat.

Between midnight and 8 a.m. the average number of people calling was 10 at Floriana, 20 at Mosta and 26 at Paola.
