Last week, Marsa hosted returning touring team Pretenders from the United Kingdom in a three-game series at the oval.

On Friday a Twenty-20 game was played with the visitors winning the toss and batting first.

Luke Derrin was the opener and top scored with 54 runs. Nick Goodchild batted well for 26 from the allotted 20 overs as his side totalled 118 runs.

For Marsa, Angelo Spiteri was the main wicket-taker with two.

In reply, Malcolm Crabbe batted throughout the whole innings. He was 74 not out and scored the winning runs from the last ball of the innings.

For Pretenders, Mark Fellows felled three wickets.

Pretenders again batted first in Saturday's match and this time they finished with a 170 from their allotted 40 overs. Duncan Stahl was 67 not out, James Manson 26 and Jonathan Cunnins 22.

The hosts lost three wickets before making the total with two overs to spare.

Nowell Khosla scored 88 runs, Chris Naudi 11, Angelo Spiteri 59, Andy Naudi 36 and Mark G. Sacco 22.

Marsa batted first on Sunday. Khosla was the main points scorer with 66 as the locals finished with 205.

Pretenders produced a spirited fightback but fell short of the target by 18 runs, Derrin again top scoring for his team with 79.

For Marsa, Khosla and Firoz were the main wicket-takers with three each.

Next Saturday, the Captain's XI take on the Chairman's XI in a match starting at 11.30 a.m.
