A man has been jailed for three years and fined Lm300 for the possession
of heroin, with the intent to sell it, close to the detox centre at St
Luke's Hospital seven years ago.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano found Anthony Frendo guilty of the possession
of heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for this personal use and
within 100 meters from the detox centre in August 2001.
He was also found guilty to committing the crime during the operative time
of a two-year suspended jail term and relapsing.
The magistrate heard Police Inspector Norbert Ciappara, prosecuting,
explain how police had been informed that Mr Frendo used to be in the
possession of heroin at Brake Off Bar situated near the hospital. When
police went to the bar they found a bag containing eight sachets of heroin
underneath the chair that Mr Frendo was sitting on.
