A Somali man has been jailed for two months after escaping from Malta, getting arrested in Germany and being returned to the island.

Inspector Darren Buhagiar charged Abdurahman Yousuf Adam, 28, with leaving Malta without informing the authorities.

The court heard that the man managed to leave Malta in September 2013. He first went to Italy and then made his way into Germany, where he was apprehended. Before Magistrate Doreen Clarke, Mr Adam admitted the charges and was sentenced to two months imprisonment.

Lawyer Noel Bartolo was defence counsel.
