A prostitute and her pimp, who have made numerous appearances in court, were yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to theft and fraud.

Kyle Mifsud, 23, a deliveryman from Cospicua, and Donna Camilleri, 28, an unemployed single mother from Santa Luċija, denied stealing a bag from an unlocked car parked in Marsascala in May.

The couple found cash as well as a credit card, which they used to purchase mobiles and several items of jewellery, spending a total of €659 from the victim’s bank account. The couple, who were also charged with relapsing, denied the charges.

Defence lawyers Austin Gauci Maistre and Noel Bartolo requested bail. Dr Bartolo said Ms Camilleri had four young children, aged between two and five, who needed to be taken care of.

But Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo objected to bail since there was a strong possibility that they would tamper with the prosecution’s evidence. He argued they were not trustworthy.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke upheld these arguments and turned down the request for bail.
