Cheikh Ahmad, 35, a Syrian national resident in Birżebbuġa, was charged in court today with threatening and harassing his former girlfriend Barbara Micallef on Tuesday and before.

He allegedly left threatening voice mail messages and stalked his ex-girlfriend.

Police Inspector Kevin Pulis said the accused was constantly calling her and she had filed several police reports against him.

Mr Ahmad admitted he had called her, but said he had not threatened her and only wanted her back.

Magistrate Camilleri granted Mr Ahmad bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 and warned him not to approach or contact Ms Camilleri in anyway – not even through a text message.

He also issued a protection order for Ms Camilleri.

Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana also prosecuted. Lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores appeared for Mr Ahmad.
