A man who admitted paying for a consignment of wine and whisky with a worthless cheque because of insufficient funds was handed down a one-year prison sentence, suspended for three.

The case goes back to 2010 when David Grech, now 34, bought €6,027 worth of alcohol from NM Arrigo Limited.

The accused admitted the charges of fraud and misappropriation. Magistrate Carol Peralta ordered him to pay the amount within six months.
