A 40-year-old Tunisian was this morning acquitted of repeatedly raping his sister-in-law, who lived in the same block.

The court heard that two consecutive reports were filed by the alleged victim on May 16 and 24, 2004, when she was 19.

She had claimed she was being threatened by the accused, who was her sister's husband, and that she had been sexually abused by him since she was nine but the full sexual act took place when she was 10.

The court judged that the accused had always denied the allegations and that there were a number of cracks in the evidence, which was not corroborated by any other witnesses.

The court decided it was not convinced that the accused was guilty and acquitted him.
