A man created a user profile in his uncle's name with HSBC and through a current account ordered a cheque book and used the cheques to buy numerous phone cards, a court was told today.

Duncan Buttigieg, 25 of Ghaxaq, pleaded not guilty to misusing a computer, illegally using a password, defrauding Mobisle Communications Ltd, Maltapost and HSBC. He pleaded not guilty.

Police Inspector Ian Abdilla told the court that six cheques had been used and had bounced.

He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 and a deposit of €500.
