Maltese martial artists recently took part in a friendly taekwondo competition in Cyprus, organised by the Cypriot Taekwondo Federation.

The Malta Taekwondo Federation group was led by president Christopher Vella. Stephen Formosa, Neville Desira and Josef Spiteri competed against others from Lebanon, Greece, Georgia and Russia, besides the host country.

While the tournament was underway, Dr Vella was invited to conduct a short seminar to referees and heads of delegations with the topic being 'The Martial Arts and the Law'.

The federation president, along with Formosa, had various meetings with representatives of other taekwondo organisations. New contacts were established.

Formosa was a bronze medal winner in Cyprus. Along with Spiteri, who was awarded a medal for Fair Play for committing no fouls, he was invited for a week-long training camp under the guidance of the Cypriot national coach.

Those interested in taking up taekwondo as a sport may contact the federation on 9945-2010 or 9947-6883 (e-mail aracne@onvol.net or koryo@maltanet.net).
