"Safety is everyone's responsibility" is the theme of a Health and Safety Week being organised by Maltapost employees all this week. As part of a number of initiatives being hosted during the week, Maltapost will also be introducing a no smoking policy in all company premises.

The Health and Safety week kicks off tomorrow with a talk on "The importance of health and safety at the work place" by Dr Simone Borg, who chairs the Occupational Health and Safety Authority.

On Tuesday Sedqa officials will be visiting various Maltapost branches; on Wednesday Sedqa officials will be delivering a talk on 'Drug and Alcohol Abuse'. On Wednesday morning, Health Promotion Department officials will be visiting Maltapost employees at their place of work in Gozo.

Friday will see the introduction of a no smoking policy at all Maltapost branches and offices. This will be followed by a discussion on the conflicts of introducing a no smoking policy at a work environment. The lecture will be conducted by Ms Maria Ellul from the Health Promotion Unit.

The climax of the week is an open day on Sunday at Maltapost head office. In the afternoon there is a rescue exercise by the Civil Protection Department, a first aid demonstration by the Malta Red Cross Society, a display by the Armed Forces of Malta Bomb Disposal Unit, and a show by the specially trained dogs of the Malta Police Force.
