I hope I am in the wrong, but I have the impression that the local music composers and writers are not really appreciated by the media in general. I cannot understand why their names are not mentioned whenever a song is presented on the local television or radio stations.

Lately I was listening to a radio station which played a great song, Fejn Tidħol l-Imħabba sung by Edwin Galea, a dedication on his birthday. It was composed by Victor Zammit with lyrics by Clemente Zammit and 40 years ago won the first Tokyo International Popular Song Festival organised by the Yamaha Music Foundation Tokyo. Mro Zammit had the honour and privilege of conducting an orchestra made up of 90 elements! On another occasion we had the privilege of seeing and hearing on a local TV station, for the first time, il-Bajżo, of the Malta Bums fame, singing the song L-Ewwel Tfajla Li Ħabbejt composed by Ray Agius with lyrics by Alfred C. Sant, which launched il-Bajżo as the new lead singer of The Malta Bums after Freddie Portelli left the group to form his own band The Black Train.

On both occasions these artistes were never mentioned, unfortunately.

These artistes, along with others, should be given more appreciation and credit for providing us and the singers with such memorable songs.
