Seeing the centre pages of The Times of September 22, I recalled my idea of making models of the Malta railway way back in the early 1970s. I spent about 10 years researching and taking photos of what remained of the line.

Between 1981 and 1984, I modelled the six stations – that is Valletta, Ħamrun, Birkirkara, Attard, Rabat and Mtarfa – and I held the first Malta Railway Exhibition at my home during the Christmas season of 1985/86, 25 years ago.

I was surprised by the number of people who visited my exhibition, some of them remembering this service in Malta. I repeated this event during the season of 1987/88 (Times of Malta, January 2, 1988). In 1998, the exhibition moved to a permanent place at 37, St Dominic Street, Attard. It is eight metres long and there are several items connected with the railway traffic in Malta including an original timetable of 1913.
