Italy coach Cesare Prandelli yesterday warned his players they must cut out the mistakes which saw them held to a draw by Bulgaria in their opening World Cup qualifier.
The Euro 2012 finalists had taken a 2-1 lead in Sofia but were pegged by Georgi Milanov's second-half equaliser.
It was not the start the Azzurri wanted in Group B, and Prandelli is keen to see a much improved performance when they take on Malta in Modena.
Malta coach Pietro Ghedin said this is the biggest game of his coaching career so far. He said Malta is aiming for a creditable result which would enable the Maltese players to leave the stadium with their heads high.
Malta and Italy have faced each other on four previous occasions. Italy won all the matches, with two having a margin of five goals.
