The 2005 European Championship draw was held in Belgrade on Saturday. The Malta Basketball Association was represented by secretary general Frank Camilleri.

The men's national team, who will make their second appearance in the competition, were drawn to meet Ireland, Switzerland and Slovakia. Malta will play the first group match of the campaign at home when they face Ireland on September 11 next year.

For the first time Malta will also participate in the women's Euro Championship. The team was drawn in Group C with Bosnia, Belarus and Norway. The GSSE 2003 gold medallists will play the opening match in Bosnia on September 18, 2004.
