The Malta 'F' team have taken the lead of the HSBC World Team Challenge golf tournament, currently taking place at the Royal Malta Golf Club (RMGC).

Twenty teams are taking part in this five-week competition, nine from Malta, five from England and one team representing each of the following countries - Wales, Ireland, Germany, Norway, Holland and the Rest of the World.

In the first round, Malta 'F' scored a total of 128 points and the highest individual score was achieved by Charles Sullivan with 46 points.

The launch of the HSBC World Team Challenge follows the recent sponsorship presented by HSBC Bank Malta to the Royal Malta Golf Club.

"In less than a year, the RMGC will be celebrating 100 years here at Marsa. To celebrate this important milestone, the club felt that the time had come to carry out much needed work on our club entrance, Anthony Bonello, RMGC secretary, said.

HSBC support

"This project will incur a substantial sum and the RMGC is extremely grateful to HSBC for its support and in return is delighted to launch the new HSBC World Team Challenge competition."

"Golf is an important area of sponsorship for HSBC, as demonstrated by the HSBC World Matchplay competition for the world's best players at Wentworth, UK," Martin Wilkins, Chief Operating Officer at HSBC Bank Malta, commented.

The HSBC World Team Challenge is being scored using an aggregate stableford format with 3/4 handicap allowance. At the end of each round, the best three scores from each team go towards the final score.

The winning team will be the one with the highest aggregate stableford score over the whole competition.
