The government has deposited the ratification instrument to an EU protocol that would enable the European Parliament to increase its members.

The amendment – to the transitional provisions annexed to the Treaty on the European Union, to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and to the Trearty establishing the European Atomic Community, as adopted at the Intergovernmental Conference on 23 June 2010, was unanimously approved by Parliament on Monday, after it was tabled by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg.

Malta today desposited the Instrument of Ratification with the Italian government, becoming the first EU member state to complete the ratification process.

The protocol will come into force once all EU sates have completed their ratificaiton process.
