Malta International Airport has broken another record of passenger movements, registering the busiest September ever.

Passenger movements reached 373,610 last month, a 15.4 per cent increase over the same period last year. Seat capacity rose by 11.5 per cent, meaning that 498,243 seats were available.

Aircraft movements went up by 11.7 per cent. Some 75 per cent of all seats were full and the average maximum take-off weight of aircraft was 9.3 per cent higher than last year’s.

However, cargo and mail was 20 per cent down.

The French, Spanish and Italian markets grew significantly, posting 43.8, 34.8 and 32.6 per cent increases respectively. The UK market registered a drop of 1.9 per cent.

In the first nine months of this year, passenger movements numbered 2,584,305, a 12.4 per cent increase over last year. The MIA said the main reason behind this was a 9.6 per cent increase in seat capacity.
