In the best match of the weekend, Luxol edged out Depiro to go top of the table in the women's league.

Second-placed Hibs Medsea, who have a game in hand, were never troubled by SN Suns to maintain their perfect start to the championship.

Last week, Luxol ended Hibs' impressive run in the KO after beating them in the semi-final. Ruth Spiteri's girls extended their fine patch last weekend after defeating strong contenders Depiro to chalk up their fifth victory in six matches.

Luxol, who were without playmaker Beverly Zammit, had the better start to open a 14-3 lead. Depiro were hit by the absence of pivot Ritienne Spiteri who is still recovering from injury.

Depiro fought back to narrow the gap to six points till the end of the first quarter - 16-10. The game continued to be a balanced affair as Luxol led by a single basket at half-time - 23-21.

Luxol maintained the upperhand over Depiro and looked in control but when forward Francesca Psaila Savona was fouled out, their performance dropped.

Depiro had the chance to force extra time but Joselle Cardona missed a free-throw and Luxol held on to win 44-43.

Hibs recovered from their upset in the KO to defend their unbeaten record at the expense of bottom-placed SN Suns.

After changing ends 52-12 in front, Hibs went on to surpass the 100-point mark for a resounding 108-26 victory.

Hibs had captain Lucienne Bezzina making a comeback after several weeks on the sidelines.

In a close match, St James Hospital obtained their second victory in the championship, leaving Sliema Wanderers still in search of their first success.

With both teams finding it difficult to score points, the Loyola girls held a three-point advantage, 14-11, at half-time. Sliema Wanderers came back to take the lead, 21-17, but it was St James who produced the best finish to the game to win 30-26.
