A marble plaque has been unveiled in Ponsonby Street, Mosta on the residence of the late Lorenzo Attard, a harbour pilot who guided in the ships which survived the Santa Marija Convoy.

The ceremony was held by Mosta Local Council to coincide with the anniversary of the convoy's arrival.

The last and all-important arrival was the tanker Ohio which, barely afloat, was pulled into harbour strapped between two destroyers on August 15, 1942.

Mr Attard originally hailed from Vittoriosa and had a long career as a harbour pilot.
