Close to Lm8,000 in Maltese and foreign currency were stolen in a raid on an exchange bureau on Savina Square in Victoria, Gozo, police sources said.

Owner George Cremona made the discovery as he opened the bureau yesterday at about 9.30 a.m. He had last been at the bureau on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Burglars forced open the steel shutter and the front door to enter the bureau. The sources said that the haul included Maltese currency as well as Swiss francs, euros, sterling and Canadian dollars. Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona held an inquiry and appointed a team of court experts. Police investigations are being conducted by Inspector Josric Mifsud.
