A 21-year-old Libyan who lives at Hal Far Open Centre was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to attempted grievous bodily harm on another immigrant at the centre last night.

Salem Elaidy 21 Libyan was also charged with slightly injuring the immigrant when he hit him with a knife and possessing a knife.

Mr Elaidy claimed that he had not started the fight and had acted in self-defence.
