A bomb has exploded outside a mosque in the Syrian capital Damascus, causing casualties, reports say.

State TV said the bomb went off in the northern neighbourhood of Rukneddine as worshippers were leaving the mosque after Friday prayers.

The station gave no further details, but a Syrian official said later that at least 10 people were wounded, some seriously.

The Syrian capital has been hit by a string of explosions since the uprising against President Bashar Assad began in March last year.

Activists say more than 23,000 people have been killed in the conflict.
