Libya understands that immigration is posing a difficult problem for Malta, Suleiman Shoumi, the Libyan Secretary of Foreign Affairs said this morning.

Mr Shoumi was heading a delegation which called on Foreign Minister Tonio Borg this morning.

Dr Borg told Mr Shoumi that Malta thanked Libya for its efforts to curb illegal migration and for its patrols and pointed out that there has been a sharp decline in arrivals.

He said that sharp progress has been registerd in Malta-Libya issues regarding visas, fisheries and double taxation.

Malta's President George Abela, he said, would be visiting the country for the 40th anniversary of the revolution. He also looked forward to the Libyan leader's visit to Malta.
