Lewis Hamilton this morning won pole position for tomorrow's Chinese grand price from Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in second.
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was third and Felipe Massa of Williams fourth.
The result means an interesting race is in store tomorrow, with Ferrari having demonstrated that they have good long-run pace.
McLaren disappointed again today, with its drivers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button having failed to qualify from the first run.
