Davina Sammut Hili has been appointed Mayor of Floriana for three months after councillors failed to take a decision on an appointment for the whole term.

During another round of voting today outgoing independent Mayor Nigel Holland, who was nominated by PN councillor Matthew Pulis, got two votes in favour and two against. A Nationalist councillor, Anthony Brincat, was away because he is indisposed.

In terms of local government rules, Ms Sammut Hili was appointed Mayor for three months because she was the councillor with the most votes from the party which got most votes in the March 10 election.

The PL and the PN had two candidates each elected on March 10, with the remaining seat filled by Mr Holland.
