La Salle Chefwrap won the MHA Cup on Tuesday after easily beating Salesians in the final match of this round robin competition which had started earlier in the season.

At first, Salesians employed an effective 3-2-1 defensive system to contain La Salle's initial burst. But then, five goals without reply saw La Salle opening a considerable 16-9 lead before half-time.

In the second half, La Salle, inspired by the fine goalkeeping of youngsters Josef Camilleri and Andrew Mifsud, conceded only three goals.

Kavallieri Kia 20

A last-gasp penalty gave Aloysians a hard-fought win over Kavallieri to finish second behind La Salle. Aloysians started well, taking a three-goal advantage midway through the first half, but Kavallieri hit back to level the scores at half-time - 9-9.

Kavallieri showed the better fare after the restart but Aloysians went three goals up only for Kavallieri captain Julian Xuereb to inspire his team to restore parity.

In the final minute, Aloysians were awarded a penalty which was converted by Ragonesi. Kavallieri tried to level terms but there was no time left.

Mediterranean Championship

The Malta Handball Association this week issued a list of 15 players in Milos Stanisavljevic's U-18 squad for the Mediterranean Championship in Porto between February 23 and 29.

Malta was pitted in Group A along with Egypt, France, Greece, Spain and Turkey. The teams in Group B are Italy, Slovenia, Syria, Tunisia, Portugal and Cyprus.
