The past week was a busy one at the oval with Krishna going on to retain the Winter League title and Marsa CC playing Whittington CC, a touring team from the UK.

Against Whittington, Marsa won the toss and Tim Edwards and Chris Naudi opened the batting.

Edwards was first to go, scoring six runs before being caught. Naudi went on to make 34 runs from 34 balls faced.

Angelo Spiteri scored 14, Anthony Roberts 16 and Ronnie Sacco 21. Towards the end of the innings, Andy Lenard added another 42, Malcolm Crabbe scored 49 and Dave Newton chipped in with 17 runs not out as the hosts totalled 234 runs.

For Whittington, M. Horner and A. Clamp were the main wicket-takers with two each.

In reply, the visitors totalled 192 all out, losing by 42 runs.

Their run chase began quite well with T. Tanner scoring 49 and S. Wright 30. There were also good performances from J. Evans, 22, C. Hilyer, 25, and S. McNish, 32.

For Marsa, Lenard, Sacco and Crabbe all took three wickets each.

Marsa have now won all five encounters against touring teams this year.

On Thursday, the Krishna team played two successive games from the Winter League.

In the first, Melita batted first with Joy Ghoseroy top-scoring with a 53 from a total of 120 runs. Nowell Khosla claimed three wickets.

In reply, Krishna made the runs required by the end of the 22nd over with Andy Naudi hitting a 51 and John Grima scoring 41. With this win Krishna won the league for the second successive time.

In the other league game Krishna played against Marsa who scored a mammoth 185 runs from their allotted overs. In reply, Krishna were bowled out for 82 runs.

In the final standings Krishna led the way with 29 points. Marsa had to settle for second place on 24 and Melita third, 16.

Next weekend, Marsa will have two new touring teams to play against.

On Saturday they face Ampthill Town at 10.30 a.m. and on Sunday Marsa play Redbourn at 9 a.m.
