From Justine Pearson, 11, of Rabat.
Dear Junior News, I would like to share this unique experience with the readers of Junior News. For the past three years I have been taking piano practice and theory lessons and I also sit for the Trinity Guildhall exams. April 10 was a memorable day for me as I attended the Presentation of Prizes and Awards Day, which was held at St Aloysius College.

I was awarded an Encyclopaedia of Music by the British High Commissioner, Nick Archer, for obtaining a distinction in Theory from grade 1 to grade 5 consecutively. I was really pleased to get this prize as I had worked hard for it. The book is very interesting and informative.

I would like to thank the sponsor The Trinity College London Malta Centre. There were also other students who got prizes for their achievements.

The day before, I attended the Annual High Marks Concert, where I played the piano, for obtaining a distinction in grade 4 piano practice. This is the third time that I took part but I was very excited just the same. I enjoyed the evening very much as there were also other students playing various instruments, as well as singing. I would also like to thank my teachers.

My wish is to be successful in my future studies and for other students to do well too. I would like to finish off this letter by saying that "Music is the universal language of mankind". Thanks and best regards.

You have done extremely well, Justine, especially having to fit in your practice and studying with everything else. And isn't it nice when, like on this occasion, there is an exciting event to top it all!

From Gianluca Vella Valletta, of Marsaxlokk.
Dear Junior News, hello I am a 10-year-old boy Gianluca, attending Prep 5 at Stella Maris School, Balzan. I have different hobbies, one of which is writing poems. I was inspired to write the poem, which I am enclosing. My teacher gave us a composition with the title A Day In The Life Of A Tree. I would like to participate in your weekly Star Letter competition and would appreciate if you can publish my poem. It would be of great satisfaction and encouragement to me.

I enjoy writing poems because they give me artistic ideas about what the future may be. I also enjoy reading Junior News, especially now with its new makeover. I like the new style and format. Congratulations.

Because of space issues, your poem will be appearing in an environment issue very soon, Gianluca. But we are printing your letter in our schools issue because it was inspired by a subject at school and because school is where most people are introduced to poetry. We also hope that your letter will convince people who don't really like poems that there are some brilliant ones and that writing your own is a special way to say something. And you've won an €11.65 voucher for sending this week's star letter. Well done.

• The sender of the star letter each week will receive an €11.65 voucher to exchange and a VIP 10 per cent discount card for all toys at Toyland, for a whole year!

• Send your letters, together with your full name, age and address to Junior News.
