Brothers Kurt and Gareth Darmanin, aged 10 and seven, of Rabat, are on this week's front page to remind us all how to use the roads safely
They have gathered their information by reading articles and searching websites. Accidents happen when we are not concentrating. A reminder of the rules of the road is always important.

How to use a zebra crossing, for pedestrians
When crossing the road it is important to find a safe place to cross, where you can be seen by traffic from both directions. It is important that when you locate a zebra crossing you:
Stop. Stand on the pavement.
Use your eyes and ears. Look to the left and right for traffic and listen.
Wait until it is safe to cross. If traffic is coming, let it pass.
Look and listen. When all the traffic has passed, walk straight across the road. Do not run.
Arrive alive! Keep looking both ways until you have reached the other side.
On an island in the middle of a crossing the two parts must be treated as two separate crossings! Make sure to check that the traffic has stopped before you step off the island. The same safety rules as for zebra crossings apply.

How to use a zebra crossing for cyclists
Cyclists should remember that they are bound by the same rules as car drivers.
It is illegal to:
Park on a crossing or on the zig-zag lines
Overtake on any part of the crossing
Even if you cannot see anybody on the crossing, do not overtake.
If a pedestrian is already on the crossing, you must give way.
Do wave anyone across! This is very dangerous, in case other vehicles are approaching from the other direction or someone is overtaking.
In a traffic queue the crossing must be kept clear.
Important rules
It is important to always wear a crash helmet.
Make sure that it is tightly secured.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
Do not carry anything heavy on the bike.
Obey the traffic rules.
