Taking stock of the results obtained from the first meeting, most clubs took it to task to reinforce their resources, in the process producing a keen tussle in some of the events.

With the leading group seeking to consolidate their positions, it is to the merit of the lower classified teams that in true sporting spirit they continued to present their best formations, as they had done in the first outing.

From the 13 events in contention, Pembroke Athleta emerged victorious in six, Libertas and La Salle claimed two each while Allcomers, Birkirkara St Joseph and St Patrick's A recorded one first placing.

Worthy of mention was the keen contest in the 800m where George Vella (Pembroke) broke ahead some 300m from the finish and managed to ward off the challenge from a very determined Gerald Grech.

Vella won in 1:58.10, just half-a-second away from Grech of Libertas.

In the 100m sprint, Libertas runner Nikolai Portelli continued with his best season ever by recording a fast 11 seconds. Then, he finished second in the 200m race behind La Salle's Mario Bonello.

Rashid Chouhal (Pembroke) easily won the long jump with a leap of 7.21m and showed what a versatile athlete he is by placing second in the discus.

Another event of note was the high jump. Here, this season's revelation, Paul Vella (a national team volleyball player) showed his true mettle. After winning the triple jump, the Pembroke member went on to shine in the high jump where he raised the bar successfully to 1.82m.

There was some close competition in the women's league, especially in the 200m sprint. Deirdre Farrugia (La Salle), drawing upon her vast experience, edged out Pembroke's Celine Pace by a whisker. Third place went to Therese Mallia of Libertas. She was just one second ahead of Charlene Attard.

Seasoned athlete Jenny Pace Hickey won the second top spot for La Salle Tristar with a throw of 31.9m in the javelin.

The women's high jump and relay were won by Pembroke Kyocera B Team while the 1,500m was won by Lisa Camilleri of Libertas.

Joelle Cortis, still a youth but competing against the top athletes, managed to go under five minutes in the 1,500m race. She is now within striking distance of the national record for the youth category.
