Brooks Lia, 35, was jailed for 13 years this afternoon after jurors found him guilty of the attempted murder of a woman who was dumped in a car park near San Gwann after taking a heroin overdose in 2001.

The woman was discovered and rushed to hospital when she was "at the point of death," the prosecution had told the court.

The jury returned a 7-2 guilty verdict.

The sentence was handed down by Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono.
