Malta Freeport today welcomed IRISL’s new 6,500 TEU vessel, ‘Fifth Ocean’, on its maiden call as part of the new AMX service.
This new service will be operated as a joint venture between IRISL and China Shipping Container Lines. These two shipping lines have set up this joint Asia-Mediterranean service to be operated with eight ships sailing on a weekly basis. The service ranks among the top 10 services on this trade, in terms of capacity, and predominantly covers central and western Mediterranean.
The
AMX will be calling at Malta Freeport on a weekly basis on the following port
rotation: Malta Freeport - Valencia - Barcelona - Genoa - Damietta - Tianjin – Dalian – Pusan - Shanghai
- Ningbo -
Shekou - Port Kelang and back to Malta Freeport.
IRISL will deploy four brand new vessels on this service with a nominal capacity of 6,500TEUs, whilst China Shipping will deploy four vessels with a capacity of 5,500TEUs. This new service marks an increased presence for IRISL at Malta Freeport, which now has three mainline services a week calling regularly at the Port. IRISL had commenced using Malta Freeport as its transhipment hub for Mediterranean services in 2004.
As a result of the various shipping lines which have chosen Malta Freeport as their Mediterranean transhipment hub, namely CMA CGM Group, IRISL, UASC, Maruba Lines, Evergreen, Delmas, Hamburg Sud and Deutsche-Afrika Linien, shippers presently enjoy network connections with 125 ports worldwide, 60 of which are in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
