A judge has ordered the re-arrest of the Kalkara murder suspect after he upheld a request for the revocation of bail granted to him earlier this week.

Gregorio Scicluna is accused of killing the father of his former partner as well as the attempted murder of the latter and their two children.

He had been granted bail against a deposit of €30,000 and a personal guarantee of €30,000.

Mr Justice Michael Mallia upheld the arguments of the Attorney General who insisted that the accused did not satisfy the conditions at law to be granted bail.

Mr Scicluna, 52, stands accused of killing Joseph Caruana, 61, who was shot dead in front of his daughter and grandchildren on October 27 last year at his home in Kalkara.

In the last sitting, the court heard how a pellet that hit Mr Caruana in his spine was not the only injury that caused his death but he also had a fractured skull and a lacerated brain.

The victim suffered a brain haemorrhage due to a a blow tot he head.

The Attorney General complained that Mr Scicluna was a relapser and had already been found guilty of assisting a woman in her attempt to kill her husband in the past.

On the basis of this, he could not be trusted. This argument was upheld by the Criminal Court which said that society ought to be protected from such a character.

It therefore ordered the man's re-arrest and ordered that he be remanded in custody.

Lawyer Philip Galea Farrugia represented the Attorney General.
