Prime Minister Joseph Muscat discussed the future of the United Kingdom in the European Union during a bilateral meeting with his British counterpart David Cameron in London.

Britons will be voting on whether to stay in or exit the union in a referendum on June 23.

Dr Muscat said Europe needed a balance between countries which preferred a federal Europe and those which wanted a Europe of nations. For economic and also political reasons, the EU needed the UK and vice versa.

The two prime ministers also discussed the situation in Libya with Mr Cameron saying that the implementation of Libya’s political agreement was of utmost priority.

Dr Muscat also met Baroness Patricia Scotland in a separate meeting.
