Jason Micallef, former general secretary of the Labour Party, is to head the foundation coordinating Valletta’s preparations to be the European Cultural Capital in 2018 – known as V-18, Parliamentary Secretary for Culture Jose’ Herrera said today.

Mr Micallef is currently chairman of the Labour Party’s media company but he indicated last month that he will be embarking on a new road.

He will succeed architect David Felice whose contract as chairman expires on May 15.

Dr Herrera said the government believed in continuity and it had offered another pivotal role to Mr Felice, which he had accepted.
