The government is committed to help maritime industries grow in line with its pledge to create a maritime hub in the Mediterranean, Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Growth Edward Zammit Lewis said.

He was speaking during a visit to Kalkara Boat Yard Ltd and Kalkara Marina Ltd, owned by the Del Ceppo Brothers.

The company was set up in the 1960s and has been at its present location since 1986. It employs 30 people.

Dr Zammit Lewis said the government was committed to sustain such enterprises because they attracted clientele from as far as the US and New Zealand. The companies offer refurbishing, repair and amelioration of yachts and marina services.

He said the government was committed to help such industries grow and employ people in certain trades in the maritime sector, in line with the government’s pledge to create a maritime hub in the Mediterranean.

Dr Zammit Lewis said the government was also working on a package of incentives to increase hotels and services catering for yacht tourists.
