A man was jailed for six months after he admitted having been responsible for a bomb hoax at the law courts.

He was the second man to be jailed for making a bomb threat to the law courts in a week.

Joseph Brincat, 50, of Birkirkara, (Il-Gojja) was accused by Inspector James Grech of having made his bomb threat two weeks ago.

Brincat was also accused of having violated the conditions of a previous court sentence and bail.

He admitted having made the bomb threat on emergency telephone number 112, causing the law courts building to be evacuated. All sittings were put off while the building was searched.

The court noted that in having made use of the emergency telephone service, the accused may also have obstructed a real emergency.

In condemning the accused to jail, the court also imposed a fine of €600 for the violation of the conditions of the previous court sentences.
