Francesco Nanni, a 29-year-old Italian resident in Birkirkara, was today conditionally discharged for a year after admitting to resisting a police inspector and two constables, threatening them and injuring a woman constable on Sunday.

He also admitted slightly injuring a taxi driver.

The incident happened at San Gwann industrial estate when Mr Nanni was travelling in a taxi driven by Anthony Mifsud. They stopped at San Gwann so that Mr Nanni could withdraw some money from an ATM.

However instead of going back to the taxi, Mr Nanni ran off without paying the fare. Mr Mifsud chased him. Coincidentally, a car from the police mobile squad drove by and Mr Nanni was apprehended.

Mr Nanni struggled with the police officers before being arrested.

Following today's judgement Mr Nanni apologised for his actions.
