Accidents, accidents... What are these islands coming to? Not a week goes by without further injuries and fatalities - at much cost, beyond the financial, both to those directly involved and Malta itself.

Surely it is now time for the government to announce an immediate comprehensive public inquiry into the details of these too frequent motor accidents. If such resources are not readily available in Malta, to date, then let Malta ask for help from the EU, or other countries' accident investigation authorities, or whatever it takes for some careful detailed study to be made of where the accidents occur, whether speed is always a contributing factor, road/weather conditions, vehicle conditions, driver's age, and whether they were intoxicated or otherwise hindered, such as using a mobile phone at the time... Let somebody who can draw some sensible conclusions look at the data of these accidents in order to suggest whatever they can as ways and means of reducing their occurrence.

When something bad keeps on happening, it is surely time to ask why.

I wish those involved in these and all accidents well and a speedy recovery.
