A public call dubbed “Re-engagement of Retired Public Officers and Engagement of Retired External Recruits within the Ministry of Health, the Elderly and Community Care”, with a closing date of December 30, 2011, was intended to enlist the services of qualified and experienced nurses and midwives who have reached retirement age but not 65, Health Minister Joseph Cassar told Owen Bonnici (PL) in reply to a parliamentary question.

Dr Cassar said it was hoped that the call would lead to an increase in the number of public health workers with a view to giving people the best possible health care services.

He added that the call was governed by Government Notice 321 on the delegation of certain powers with regard to the public service, dated April 28, 2009, issued by the Prime Minister by virtue of powers given by article 110 of the Constitution.

The call would remain open until the end of 2011 so that all nurses and midwives already retired or reaching retirement age by that time will be eligible to apply.
