A company has filed a judicial protest saying access to its quarry in Żurrieq was blocked by a brick wall, damaging its business.

Ħal-Far Quarries Ltd claimed the wall was built by Malta International Parks Ltd and the police in what looked like an attempt to stop criminals from entering the allyway that gave access to the quarry.

The protest was filed against Ernest Mallia, director of International Parks, and the Police Commissioner.

In the protest, the company said the alleyway had been open for the past 20 years with a metal gate at its entrance. However, last Friday at about 10 a.m., the alleyway was blocked by Mr Mallia aided by the police.

It looked as if the wall had been built to prevent criminals from gaining access to the alley but this was abusive behaviour, the company said.

Although the alleyway had now been reopened, the company suffered damages and it was holding MIP and the police responsible for any damages caused.
