Systematic controls on EU citizens, including Maltese, entering or leaving the country from or to airports or ports from outside the Schengen area are being carried out, the government said.

The controls, the government said, were being carried out for security reasons, particularly following the Paris attacks in November and to address the threat from foreign terrorist fighters.
