Juan: Bayer Leverkusen defender Juan will miss the second leg of his side's Champions League clash with Liverpool tomorrow because of injury. Juan was forced to pull out of Leverkusen's 1-0 defeat by Hamburg on Saturday and tests revealed that he would be out for at least two weeks. The injury means that Leverkusen will be without five regulars for the return. Defenders Jens Nowotny and Roque Junior are also injured, while midfielders Robson Ponte and Paul Freier are suspended.

Stadium crush: Forty-seven people were injured last weekend, many with cracked ribs and skulls, in a crush at an overcrowded soccer stadium in Madagascar's capital, doctors said. The stadium was at full capacity of 50,000 people when hundreds of fans waiting outside to watch Madagascar's USJF Ravinala play South Africa's Kaizer Chiefs pushed their way in. Scores of people were hurt in the ensuing panic when the stadium became severely overcrowded.

Corinthians: Corinthians trounced Uniao Sao Jorge 6-1 in the Paulista championship at the weekend, providing a morale-boosting victory ahead of new coach Daniel Passarella's arrival. The prospect of a change in management seemed to concentrate the minds of an expensively-assembled group of players who have struggled to maintain any sort of consistency. Passarella was named new coach of Corinthians after a run of poor results cost his predecessor Tite his job.

Nigerian FA: The Nigerian FA has sacked five key officials and accepted the resignation of its secretary general following a probe into corruption. The changes at the top of the footballing body will be seen as a victory for the government, which had been threatened with an international ban by FIFA when it tried to sack the same officials last year.
