Hitzfeld: Ottmar Hitzfeld, one of Germany's most successful club managers, says he is ready to return to football after next year's World Cup following a two-year break from the game. The 56-year-old, who won the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund (1997) and Bayern Munich (2001), told the German daily Bild that he was open to all offers.

Celtic: Poland striker Maciej Zurawski is out of Celtic's Scottish Premier League clash with leaders Hearts tomorrow. Zura-wski suffered a hamstring injury during Poland's 2-1 loss to England on Wednesday.

Beckham: Real Madrid midfielder Guti said the club were right to order David Beckham back into training rather than allow him to support his England team-mates in their World Cup qualifier against Poland. "The people who pay him (Beckham) are Real Madrid," Guti was quoted as saying. "And if he can't play with his national side then it is much better that he is here with the rest of us. I don't think that should be a problem, should it?"

King: Tottenham captain Ledley King is doubtful for tomorrow's home match with Everton after picking up a thigh injury in England's win over Poland. Spurs manager Martin Jol said that King had a dead leg and had only a 50-50 chance of resuming his position at the heart of the defence for the visit of the Merseysiders.

Cole: Arsenal left back Ashley Cole will be out of action for up to eight weeks with his fractured foot, manager Arsene Wenger told the club's website yesterday. Cole has undergone surgery on a stress fracture in his right foot and is unlikely to return before the end of November.
