Local ICT supplier MTMalta.com, operated by Micro Technology Consultancy Ltd. of Żebbuġ, has just launched the first online shopping website in Malta that allows users to do product filtering and comparison.
"Users can search in the catalogue of over 11,000 technology products and find exactly what they want with accurate filtering facilities," announced Philip Cortis, managing director at MTMalta.com. "For example, if a user wants to buy a laptop computer, MTMalta.com offers a choice of over 100 models, with the possibility for the customer to choose a few models and list their specifications in a table format that makes it very easy to identify the differences among the models selected."
MTMalta.com is being updated daily with scores of new products and new prices, while new and/or updated product description are uploaded throughout the day.
The website has several security features in place, including fully encrypted clients' passwords (not even the administrator has access to the client passwords). Since there is no online payment but just the ordering process, MTMalta.com does not have financial information on its customers.
All items on MTMalta.com are on order and this reflects positively on the prices offered to the customer. "Should we start stocking, then we can't offer the range of over 11,000 products we are currently offering," insists Mr Cortis. "In Malta most IT sellers stock the products that they sell. This increases their overheads and limits the choice they give to their customers. IT products abroad constantly get cheaper despite the international financial crisis but if you have stock bought at a higher price, you have little options. Since we don't stock but get the goods weekly, on order, we reflect international price cuts almost immediately." Asked about the most popular items rights now, Mr Cortis said laptops are the hottest items by value for home users, but small gadgets like MP3 players are also very popular. With businesses, it's more Microsoft products and networking equipment.
