The Sunday Times of August 15 featured an article titled ‘Hurricanes in battle of Malta’, which made interesting reading.

What I wish to add to the article, which I’m sure many readers are not aware of, is that most of the text and photos were extracted from a 1987 publication titled Malta: The Hurricane Years 1940-41 by Christopher Shores and Brian Cull with Nicola Malizia.

Further to that, I feel I should point out the book launch took place at the War Museum on April 3, 1987. The next title published in the same series was Malta: The Spitfire Year 1942 by the same authors. Today, both books are no longer in print.

Available today and charting the air war over Malta also in the greatest of detail, are Hurricanes Over Malta 1940-1942 (Grub Street 2001), Spitfires Over Malta 1942 (Grub Street 2005) and Spitfires Over Sicily 1943 (Grub Street 2000).
