Tourist accommodation saw a 3.1 per cent drop in the occupancy rate this August when compared to last year, according to NSO figures.

The average number of nights spent in such establishments also dropped, this time by 7.9 per cent over August 2007. Of these, the largest drop was registered in the three-star hotels category.

The overall supply of beds decreased by 5.1 per cent to 37,572 in Malta when compared to the same month last year while in Gozo and Comino the rate increased by 4.7 per cent.
