A Lufthansa aircraft yesterday made an emergency landing at Malta International Airport after onboard systems indicated a fire in the cargo hold. Inspections carried out after the passengers were evacuated safely suggest that the problem may have resulted from a malfunctioning smoke detector. The plane had left Malta 25 minutes earlier for Frankfurt, Germany. Photo: Darrin Zammit Lupi
