As promoter of the International Ecumenical Centre for the Study of St Paul, about which I have already written, I wish to make an unusual proposal to the University of Malta.
The monthly illustrated magazine Paulus, whose advisory board I form part of, has proposed to the Ordine dei Giornalisti, the professional association of Italian journalists, to grant honorary membership to St Paul, who is considered a journalist and writer.
The president of the order reacted favourably to this suggestion but regretted that according to the Press Law of 1963 St Paul cannot be accepted as a member.
Italy's loss should be our gain in this Pauline Year. I propose to the Rector and the Senate of the University of Malta to grant an honorary degree in communication or theology to St Paul.
I hope that if we establish the International Centre in Malta, the Faculty of Theology would be one of its founding members.
